Cardiology Outpatient, IM Day 25

Yesterday, I had the privilege of learning from one of our most famous physicians at the medical school. He is a sub-sub-sub-specialist, and the patient population he serves is comprised of people with medical conditions which are difficult to treat. He has a particular interest in dysautonomia as well as syncope, and he is famous for his lectures on physician wellness and mental health. To say that he is an amazing person is an understatement. He spent the day teaching me how to be a better person, how to find what will make me happy, and advice on how to live the best life possible...In particular, he advised on how to live a happily married life as a physician (which is extremely difficult, as shown by the statistics which prove that physicians have the highest divorce rate of any occupation). I spent the day trying to soak up every bit of wisdom I could. Next week, I will have the opportunity to speak with his wife about her experiences as a physician and as a wife of a physician, and as a mother and a physician. I am so fortunate to have this opportunity. I am really trying to take in all of the wisdom and advice that I possibly can. He is one of the few really great physicians who actually realize that there is more to life than being a doctor.

A short pile of some of his favorite articles which he has written in the last 5 years...
